There are millions of untapped talents around the world and in every established music industry, there are notable music industry events like workshops, exhibitions, conferences, where stake holders, practitioners, music business professionals converge for the purpose of sharing knowledge, experience and most importantly, do business. Most of these events are avenues for new and established music talents to showcase for discovery and business opportunities. For instance, the South by south west music conference ( SXSW) has been in existence in America for over a decade and is a place where established artist participate yearly regardless of their superstar status and do business with others in the music industry. Earlier this year, we had our own 2face Idibia, Neato-c, M.I, Brymo, Bez and Seun Kuti represent Nigeria at SXSW. We also have reputable music expos like MIDEM in France which has been in existence and running for over a decade.
Based on research and close watch, the music business in Nigeria has recorded a substantial growth within the entire entertainment industry but the industry still lacks some vital wherewithal that can make it compete with the standard that has been achieved in the global music industries like USA, UK and the European territories. Some of the problems negating the growth of the Nigeria music industry could be attributed to lack of structures, pocket size resources, lack of up to date business knowledge by practitioners and lack of interactive and business driven opportunities. These and more are some of the challenges NIMEX tends to address because we believe if some of these challenges are taken care, it could propel the industry into a multi billion naira empire. It is the passionate desire to raise the standard of the Nigeria music industry to greater heights and exposing the music industry to a world of opportunities and platforms that gave birth to organizing the 1st Nigeria International Music Expo (NIMEX 2012).
