OBIWON RETURNS WITH THE REBIRTH

Ladies and Gentlemen, Obiora Nwokolobia Agu a.k.a Obiwon will be hitting record stores with his sophomore solo album titled THE REBIRTH on October 2, 2009. The long awaited album was earlier unveiled at an album listening concert held on September 26 at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, The Palms, Lekki – Lagos.

The Rebirth is loaded with love, fun and soul lifting songs like Obi Mu O, the first single off the album as well as Lift Your Hands ft. Niyola, Birthday and Victorious to mention a few. The album is a reflection of collective spiritual encounters which is why fans and music lovers will also be enjoying some gospel tunes from it. In his words, “We’re elated having come thus far. We really took our time to produce this album and we’re hoping the fans appreciate the excellence we’ve strived to achieve. We’re now off to promote the album and do the videos”.

Obiwon, formerly known as Black Prince is a graduate of Agric. Science from the University of Nsukka, Enugu State. He started with a group called – Nigerian Rap Syndicates before he moved on to form C.C.F (Coal City’s Finest) with Ill Bliss in 1995. They later joined forces with Elajoe and his sister Amaka as well as B Elect to form one of Nigeria’s Hip Hop coalitions called THE THOROUGHBREDS. It may interest you to know that (before the guys met) Elajoe’s aunt – Nelly Uchendu and Obiwon’s dad worked together on the theme song of the epic drama – THINGS FALL APART in the 80’s.

Obiwon’s first solo album, OVERTURE was released on July 4, 2006 followed by OVERTURE PLUS, an EP featuring songs like Get ‘em up, Joli and Onyinye in 2007. He has won accolades like BEST RAP SINGLE – Hip Hop World Awards 2006 (with The Thoroughbreds) and VOICE OF THE GENERATION – Nigerian Music Awards 2007 (as a solo act).
