So if you saw the first leak of this video, you really should see this one to figure the difference. Here it is guys the official video of one of the hottest single from this part of Africa – “Oleku” by Ice Prince.
This is not a bad video at all. Director, Mex killed it like he always does with visual effect; how-ever, the disparity from the previous leak and this one is not much from the concept point of view. I think it’s a basic video with no particular “wow- factor” or something to hold on to…especially where first impression counts. “Oleku” is a great song already even without a video so this will come handy as a reference material for Ice Prince and the song. It should get massive airplay based on the strength of the song but not necessarily as a video you just wanna see for the beauty of it.
We can’t rule out the challenges of getting convenient locations for video shoots in Nigeria but a couple of music videos in recent time have considerably silenced that excuse (I choose not to mention). I believe that every director has their strengths…visual effect can be cool but I think “Oleku” should have been shot miles away from chroma. A proper story line should have been adopted – not necessarily playing out the lyrics of the song but something to relay the level of hardwork put into the achievement of this great song.
I had the same feeling when 9ice eventually came up with a video for “Gongo Aso”…many of you will agree that it didn’t work for the song…the video was just released to “fulfill all righteousness”.
I’m a big fan of Ice Prince and I think he is one of the most talented guys from the African continent. However, when it comes to Nigerian music as a whole, every unit involved should be checked to ensure a great level of accuracy in what we showcase to the ‘ever watching world’. Shoot if you want!
