General Pype, the self acclaimed ‘7-star General’ has joined the Storm family. In a recent chat with Obi Asika, C.E.O, Storm Records, he confirmed “Yes, Pype is now signed to us but it’s through another record label called Podium”. The merger of these companies on Pype is intended to project his talent and music. “Storm is behind Pype for sure and we’re about to take that kid global”, Obi said. Already, plans to shoot the video for his official debut single “Champion” is on the line. We gathered that the video will be shot this weekend on the streets of Lagos.
Real names Olayiwola Ibrahim Majekodunmi was born October 9, 1981, he started out in a choir called Triumphant Choral Voices, singing around various churches in the country. The dancehall and reggae music in him later emerged and took him out to the streets; “I believe it was my will power and God that has directed me from that point to where I am till date”. His first single was actually Keep It Cool released in 2007 but the song was not loud enough to match up with the big hits like “Ruggedy Baba”, “Yahoozee”, “Pere”, “Booty Call”, “Lagi Mo”, “Adara” and other songs that were in popular demand that year.
Pype, meaning –‘Prolific Youth Positive Entertainer’ has performed at various shows like Rhythm Council, Rhythm Unplugged and you should have seen him on Zain’s ‘Advanced Warning’. His vocals were significant on songs like “Strong Thing” by Sasha and “Teaser” by M.I and according to him he has done125 collaborations, most of which are unreleased.
His yet-to-be-untitled album was initially marked to drop before December but this will depend on Storm which also has GT the Guitarman, Sasha, Sauce Kid and Naeto C on the list.
You already know that Ikechukwu Onanukwu a.k.a Ekillz is no longer on Storm Records; he is now on Mo’Hits’ caravan. His frequent cameos on D’Banj’s and Mo’ Hits’ videos and hook ups at events made it a ‘pending eventuality’.
